COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT DOES FRC DO?

We rescue vegetables and fruits which may look ugly but are still edible.  From time to time, we also collect and distribute surplus or close-to-expiry food products from donors, which are then distributed to community fridges around Singapore.

Our objective is always to reduce food wastage.

DO YOU ACCEPT EXPIRED ITEMS?

Yes, items that have just expired or are close to their expiry dates can still be distributed to communities around Singapore. We work closely with our volunteers on the ground who are able to share these food items with families within hours, which prevents the food from being wasted.

WHO ARE YOUR BENEFICIARIES ?

Most of the people who benefit from the food we rescue come from the lower income groups or those in the sandwich class.  These are often people who do not qualify for government handouts and will take whatever help they can get.

Many community fridges are also located in areas with more elderly residents or areas close to rental flats. Since the pandemic, we have also noticed an increase in the number of people requiring food aid and they come from all walks of life.

DO YOU OWN AND MANAGE THE FRIDGES?

No, we do not own or manage any of the fridges. The community fridges are managed by various organisations, such as the Residents Committees (RCs) and smaller community groups. We work closely with our partners and volunteers to provide food for these fridges.
